Principal's Message - 2017-2018 School year

Dear Avery Middle School families and community -

It is an absolute pleasure to be writing the first of many Hawk Headlines messages to all of you.  These messages will contain important information and inspiration to keep us going through the school year.  Please take the time to read ALL of the words from ALL of our departments… knowledge is power!

I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many of you already… what a great start it has been!  The students and staff at Avery Middle School are truly special.  Strong, positive relationships between myself and our community are already building.

As I start this journey with all of you, I want to share more about my journey to this position.  I grew up in Southern California, a decent student with decent grades, but I know I should’ve tried harder.  I met my wife at the age of 20; a Calaveras County native and Calaveras High School graduate.  She brought me to this community and pushed me to pursue a strong desire to work with children/students.  Becoming an educator was my destiny and the path was clear once enrolled at CSU Stanislaus.  Ten years of course-work later, I held a BA in Liberal Studies, Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, MA in Education Administration, and an Administrative Services Credential.  During those years, I worked full-time in several local businesses/companies, as well as teaching 4th grade at Columbia Elementary School.  I left that position to pursue a higher calling and spent six successful years as a school administrator in the Empire Union School District; three as an Assistant Principal (K-8 and 7/8) and three as a Principal (K-6).  I always intended to return to this community where I felt at home and safe.  I have now been granted the opportunity to be Principal of Avery Middle School and plan to make the most of every day.

As we progress through the school year together, I hope my passion for education and supporting students is felt by all our stakeholders.  Together, we will make 2017-2018 a school year to remember for all the right reasons.  OUR HAWKS WILL SOAR!!!

Thanks for reading!
